The Hemospectrum is the spectrum of blood colors possessed by trolls, which forms the basis of their caste system, with social and biological implications.

Social Aspects

The caste system on Repiton is based on the color of an individual's blood.

It is possible that the blood-color caste system may correspond with medieval class systems on Earth.

Based on this supposition, purple blood would be high royalty, blue would be nobility of sorts, green would probably be lesser nobility, and red would be peasantry. The intermediary colors are harder to discern but may correspond to other roles in feudal society or may fall under the previously listed four groups.

Hemotyping

Hemotyping is a tradition in troll society where a person uses their blood color for writing and as the color of their symbol. All of the trolls shown in Vast Error practice hemotyping.

Biological Aspects

Blood color seems to have several biological consequences in addition to the social consequences of the caste system. Troll tears, sweat, gums, and tongues are apparently the same color as their blood, though more diluted in color. Trolls within the violetblood and fuchsiablood castes also have aquatic physiological differences compared to the rest of their species (e.g. facial fins and gills).

"Cornsyrup" Blood is a one-of-a-kind blood color that exists outside of the hemospectrum. Not much is known about this blood caste except that its coloration appears to be a mixture of brown and lime blood. It was passed down to Arcjec Voorat from his Ancestor.

Lime Blood is a one-of-a-kind blood color that exists outside of the hemospectrum. Ordinary trolls can never possess lime blood even as a mutation. The only trolls who have ever shared this blood color are The Vivifier, Ellsee Raines and their lusus.

Jade Blood is the fifth-lowest blood caste. It has been stated by the creators that Jadebloods are "almost like planetary bigfoot" and are nearing extinction themselves due to their lack of purpose within the planet. They are still seen as a needed force, and due to their rarity and use, they are protected at all costs by the planet as a form of pseudo-royalty.

Fuchsia Blood was once the highest blood caste. This caste was one of the rarest of all the blood colors; however, it has since gone extinct in troll society after 99.9% of the seadwellers were slaughtered. It is currently unknown how many fuchsiabloods were alive beforehand and how many specific colors there were under the caste.
