The Vigilant Protector, abbreviated to VP, is a Prospitian carapacian who serves as a pawn under direct service to the White King and White Queen.
Biography
At some point during the 143 prior sessions to the Repition session, VP was known as the Virtuous Piscator. He was a fisherman on Skaia, but when war broke out between the newly-formed kingdoms of Prospit and Derse, VP was called to serve as a solider. Throughout the sessions, VP would fight, be killed, and then revived the next session. One of these deaths was notably at the hands of the Exonerated Executor. Eventually, exhausted from fighting an endless war and seeing the damage done to Skaia, VP gave up fighting the soldiers of Derse, dropping his shield and spear. In turn, realizing the same, the Derse soldiers ceased fighting too. However, this ceasefire would be short lived as aerial fleets from each kingdom (including Jack Noir and the what-would-become Dead Shufflers), following their orders, would drop bombs on Skaia, destroying it. White Noise, frustrated at the two kingdoms, separated them to their own planets for future sessions. VP, along with his fellow Prospitians, would live on the planet of Prospit from then on.
As the 144th session progressed, sometime after Arcjec Voorat entered the game, both kingdoms arranged to meet on Prospit to discuss their truce. VP was tasked to escort EE and Jack Noir to the courtroom for the proceedings. Once they arrived, VP acted as a bailiff during the discussions. As the proceedings continued, seeing how each kingdom's royals squabbled with each other, VP recalled the many sessions of war and the destruction it wrought. Fed up, VP made an outburst, proclaiming each king and queen "COMPLETE AND UTTER STUPID IDIOT MORONS!!!"
Sometime after the court proceedings finished, VP was accompanied by the Exonerated Executor in an unknown location. He was now outfitted in a black suit of armor accessorized with Mountain Dew: Code Red cans. He and EE had a view of Albion Shurka on the Land of Asteroids and Runes, for which VP delivered an impassioned speech to.
Personality and Traits
The Vigilant Protector is someone who stands up for what he believes is right. After dozens of conflicts on Skaia, instead of continuing to fight, VP chose to lay down his weapons, likely going against the command of his kingdom. This has also been seen when VP called out the royalty of Prospit and Derse for arguing about keeping their truce. Though it was an anger-fueled outburst and spoken with insults, VP refused to tolerate their bickering over such important matters.
VP also has a preference for peace over violence. He fondly reminiscences over the harmony had on Skaia many sessions ago prior to the rise of the kingdoms of Prospit and Derse. Though he fought as he was conscripted to do so, he understood when fighting was futile and ceased battling against the Dersites. This desire for peace was the catalyst for his outburst against the Kings and Queens in court, as their arguing over their truce reminded VP of the cost of war.
Relationships
The White King and Queen
VP is at service to the White King and White Queen. The Prospitian Royals seemingly respect VP, enough so that they tasked him specifically with escorting EE and Jack Noir to the inter-kingdom proceedings and then act as bailiff for them. However, though they are his monarchs, VP was willing to push back against them when they squabbled with the Black King and Black Queen. VP was even willing to go as far as to insult them to get his point across.
Jack Noir
VP is aware of Jack's notoriety, feeling some anxiety over escorting him and EE to the Propitian courtroom.
Exonerated Executor
In a previous session, the Exonerated Executor fought against VP on Skaia and was slain by her in battle. Later, in the 144th session, VP was ordered to escort EE with her ward, Jack Noir, into the Prospitian courtroom. They would each take part in the proceedings along with their respective royals. After, the two were together in an unknown location, communicating with Albion.
It is unknown if VP knows that EE killed him in a previous session, if he cares at all.
Trivia
- VP's black, Code Red armor was first seen in the Song for the Lost track art from Vast Error Vol. 3, six years before its comic debut.
