Helica Alembi is a troll in the Haustoria chapter of Thaumatrope. Her associated alchemic sigil is Retort.
Etymology
'Helica' is likely referring to Helicarionidae, the family which contains land snails in reference to her lusus and general theme. 'Alembi' is likely to be derived from the word alembic, a distillation device similar to a retort, her sigil.
Biography
Before Haustoria
Alongside Lutzia, the two of them move into a hive nearby a forest, noted to be too gross and unsafe for Helica's liking.
During Haustoria
Helica is first seen at someone's hive, exchanging slime for loops. After finishing the deal, she finds Lutzia attempting to fix a pipe for mold, and proceeds to try to talk her out of doing it by saying it's just paint. Lutzia doesn't listen, causing said pipe to burst and the butcher to kick both of them out. Helica and Lutzia bicker and then kiss on the way back to the hive, and Helica asks Lutzia to stay in the van.
After Helica finishes a makeup video, she walks into Lutzia sloshing snoutbeast blood in the blender. She gets upset, as it was promised to not use that blender for blood tests, but Lutzia tries to convince her that it'll work out well. Helica raises concerns if there's even a plan, and while Lutzia tries to reassure her that'll be figured out along the way, the blender gets knocked over and blood splatters all over. This being the limit, Helica starts shouting at her, leading it to become an argument. Lutzia argues that Helica isn't supportive of what she does, while Helica remarks that she's been supportive all this time, and calls Lutzia immature. Helica gets abandoned by Lutzia for saying she needs to grow up, and assumes she won't be see her for up to two days.
Helica's whereabouts aren't known while Lutzia is at the village for multiple sweeps. Lutzia has made an attempt to contact her, but she wasn't able to remember her password and couldn't find Helica's trolltag. At the end, Lutzia returns to the hive, only to find remains of it and Helica's lusus, with Helica herself having quit the scene.
Personality and traits
Helica has been shown to be irritable, mostly during her kismesissitude with Lutzia. She's cautious and crabby, and her more caring side may get obscured through her yelling and hot-headedness. Helica raises concern for what she doubtful of, and will get defensive when necessary, even if it means to lash out in anger.
While mentioned briefly, Helica makes online videos about cosmetology, carrying an interest in such by creating online videos.
Helica tries to exchange sopor slime for loops, noting that Lutzia uses up most of their budget. The source of this slime isn't specified or fully known, but can be assumed that it's from her snail lusus.
Relationships
Lutzia Cullex
The kismesissitude Helica had with Lutzia was mostly functional. Despite Helica's tendency to get furious with Lutzia's actions, she still cares and deeply worries about her and what she does. Helica had genuinely tried to show support of her passions, from moving hives to a spot with plenty of mosquitoes to letting her take over Helica's old video channel. Helica still admits that Lutzia is mainly wasting time and gets furious after she starts a new project with no successful ones previously, despite many promises Lutzia breaks. Their kismesissitude ended after Lutzia abandoned Helica due to an argument.
Snail lusus
We don't see her lusus often, but it can be assumed that Helica has started some sort of business with the slime her lusus produces. While due to this business one might assume they had an at least decent bond, when it's revealed Helica is gone, we can see her lusus has died and left behind where the hive once was. Whether the lusus died before or after she left isn't known.
Trivia
- Her Toyhou.se states that her classpect would be Bard of Mind, but Xamag has said that the Toyhou.se profiles aren't entirely canon to what's shown in Haustoria.
