Biography
Etymology
Dismas shares a name with Saint Dismas, the "Penitent Thief" or "Good Thief", possibly as a nod to his player class. According to the Christian tradition, Saint Dismas was one of the two criminals who died on crosses next to Jesus during the latter's crucifixion.

Six-Sweeps
The name Dismas is also derived from Greek δυσμή (dysme), meaning "sunset".
Not much is known about Dismas' past, aside from his history with Murrit. It is known that Murrit somehow came to own Dismas' soul after Dismas lost it in a poker match.

Dismas was then appointed to being Murrit's hitman, supposedly to take back artifacts he sold from the Frog Temple. Which he needs to fulfill his deal with White Noise.
Pre-game
Dismas is first seen shortly after he returned to his room after narrowly avoiding his lusus, who happened to be a rancid mood. He is suddenly messaged by his kismesis who tells him he needs to go outside and that tonight was of great importance, as Murrit's plans to save his friends from total planetary annihilation and bring about The Game were finally coming to fruition. Despite his concerns about dealing with his lusus, Dismas begrudgingly complies. After being told the situation and the fate of their doomed planet, Dismas encounters Murrit's remote surveillance robot: Boobdrone.

Underwhelmed by the breast-shaped robot, and flipping it off, Murrit responds with a slap to the face from Boobdrone. When Dismas still doesn't believe Murrit's claims of the destruction of Repiton, Boobdrone points to the sky and draws attention to the meteors falling from above. Not long after, Dismas' lusus -- still mad from being locked out -- finds Dismas and prepares an attack for his ward. As Dismas prepares to retaliate, he soon realizes he has no help and must retreat to a nearby hideaway by a waterfall. He then receives a message from Albion, who unbeknownst to him, is being possessed by his long-deceased Ancestor. Albion's ancestor warns Dismas to not "follow credence of the man who spins words like yarn" and to stop "the limeblooded vessel to his heart", leaving Dismas deeply confused and concerned for his friend. Shortly after, he is included in Murrit's mass memo concerning The Game.
Biography
Dismas tries his best to choke out the young Skulltitan, but is easily knocked off and is sent hurtling towards the cliff side as his lusus fires an atomic blast in his direction. Dismas loses his bandanna in the process and his fate is left unknown until Act 2.
Early life
As stated by Glomer during Snowbound Blood: Volume Nine, Dismas was taken captive by a Skulltitan while still in school. He was four passes old at the time, "graduating" early. Since that moment, he was forced to look after his new lusus, mining irradiated ores from the canyon where his hive is located and eventually building up a resistance to the hazardous material.

He is then included Ellsee's memo, but does not appear to respond.

Later, Dismas reunites with Murrit Turkin through an online game of poker in which he bet and lost his "soul", coming to work for the seadweller as a personal hitman in the process. During this time, he helped them take back the pieces of the Frog Temple they had sold, as Murrit needed them back in order to fulfill their deal with White Noise. The two became kismeses over the course of their relationship.

Some time later, Dismas wakes up at the bottom of the canyon: alive but heavily injured. He is once again appraoched by the Boobdrone, now being piloted by Murrit. Dismas tells Murrit that he's officially out of commission, on the count of his broken arm which his healing factor can't immediately heal like the rest of him. Dismas calls Murrit out for nearly getting him killed for his sick little videos, but states that he knows better than to expect that from the seadweller. Murrit, in an effort to make Dismas feel better and get him to move, brings Dismas' moirail into the call: furbishFacilirated. An upset and frantic FF asks Murrit about Dismas' wellbeing, as Murrit had told her that he had been killed.
Also during that time, Murrit found Jentha Briati through unknown circumstances, leading Dismas to her under the guise of a hit. Dismas refused to end her life, and eventually the two wn, entering a moirallegiance.

FF asks Dismas if he's alright, but Dismas comforts her instead, since she's clearly upset and overwhelmed from thinking that Dismas was dead and being unable to get any clear answers from Murrit. Dismas tells FF that his lusus' attack was a fluke with no actual killing intent, and he is mostly fine aside from the arm. Meanwhile, Murrit plays back his remixed footage of Dismas' fight which creates a cacophony of noise that upsets Dismas and FF.
Act 1
Dismas is first introduced inside his respiteblock. He is soon messaged by Murrit, who urges him to go outside in order to help her with her plans to save their friends from planetary annihilation and bring about The Game. Despite his concerns about dealing with his lusus, Dismas begrudgingly complies.

Murrit states he's ready for Dismas to act as his server player for the game. Dismas and FF tells Murrit to fuck off on the count of Dismas' condition and Murrit being entirely at fault for it. Murrit tells them he's hatched a plan to get Dismas back to his hive, as he has another Boobdrone push an ore-powered mine cart onto the nearby rails.
After leaving his hive, Dismas finds one of Murrit's remote surveillance boobdrones waiting for him. Controlled by Murrit, the boobdrone points toward the sky and draws his attention to an incoming meteor, proof that their world-ending claims are true. Moments later, Dismas' angered lusus finds him. He braces for a confrontation.

Dismas and FF do not like Murrit's plan, but Dismas refrains from complaining about it to address his previous cryptic conversation with Albion. Murrit states that she's fine and seemed to be acting relatively normally from his perspective. FF points out that even if the cart plan works, Dismas will still have to contend with his lusus back at his hive, which Murrit says that it's under control. Finally Dismas reminds Murrit that his computer is damaged and barely functional and will likely be unable to run the game. Murrit tells Dismas that they will work as a team to get it working again. Resentful, but seeing no other options, Dismas reluctantly agrees with the plan. Dismas is lifted onto the cart by the drone, sets the carrier to max speed and proceeds to MELT TRACK with the Boobdrone in tow.
Later, Dismas receives a message from Albion Shukra while hiding from the Skulltitan inside a cave. Unaware that she is being possessed by her long-dead ancestor, he has a brief conversation with Cyprim Shukra, who warns him not to "lend credence to the man who spins his words like yarn" and tells him to stop the "limeblooded vessel to his heart". Both statements leave Dismas deeply confused and concerned for his friend.

During the game
During the events of , Dismas is shown fighting his lusus. He is knocked off cliff and then shot with a laser-like blast from the Skulltitan's mouth, losing his bandana in the process and hurtling toward a nearby waterfall.
Dismas has yet to enter the game.

Etymology
Act 2
Dismas' Skorpe handle, 'gigantisDebilitation', 'gigantis' meaning Godzilla (a reference to the original international title of the second Godzilla movie: Gigantis: The Fire Monster, as well as being a reference to Dismas' lusus), and 'debilitation' meaning 'weakness' or 'to weaken'. As such, Dismas' Skorpe handle can be said to mean "Godzilla's weakness", or "weakening Godzilla", a reference to Dismas' desire to eliminate his lusus.
Some time later, Dismas wakes up at the bottom of the canyon, alive but heavily injured. He's approached by the same boobdrone from earlier and lets Murrit know that he's out of commission, on account of a newly-broken arm. They get into an argument about Murrit's previous actions putting Dismas' in harm's way, all for one of their dismas, but the couple dances around an actual apology. In an effort to make Dismas feel better and get him to move on, Murrit brings his moirail, Jentha, into the call.

Dismas' name is also the name of the Christian saint: Saint Dismas. In the Christian religion, Saint Dismas was one of the two criminals who had died on crosses next to Jesus during the Crucifixion. He, according to the Christian religion, had asked Jesus to "remember him" when he had "come into" his kingdom when he died.
After Dismas reassures Jentha about his condition, downplaying his injuries, Murrit states that he's ready for Dismas to act as his server player. Dismas and Jentha are outraged at the suggestion, both due to Dismas' condition and Murrit being entirely at fault for it, but the seadweller manages to talk Dismas into listening to him: he tells them that he's hatched a plan to get Dismas back to his hive using an ore-powered minecart by the nearby rails.

The name Dismas derives from the Greek word meaning "sunset" or "death"
Jentha and Dismas are skeptical, but Dismas concedes, due to both a lack of options and Murrit's reassurances that things are murrit. Dismas is then deposited into the cart and proceeds to wn, boobdrone in tow.

Personality and Traits
During , Dismas is shown almost falling to his death as he's forced to jump from the minecart in order to avoid a pile of rocks on its path. Murrit manages to catch him with the boobdrone, safely throwing him inside his hive through a window. She then pushes him down through the ladder that leads into his respiteblock, where Dismas finally manages to help her with her entry.

Dismas is defined by his constant struggle to overcome his difficult circumstances. Having been raised by a highly volatile and aggressive immature Skulltitan lusus and having been forced to endure horrible physical tolls to satiate it, Dismas is primarily driven by a goal to escape his abusive home by means of eliminating his lusus and -- by extension -- its entire destructive species. He's dedicated his life towards such a goal and spends great time studying ancient footage of Skulltitans and the methods of their defeat.

However, Dismas is noted to be the kind of troll who regularly over-estimates his abilities, to the point where he often does more harm than good for himself. This is demonstrated in his insufficient methods in eliminating his lusus (simply trying to choke it out), him gambling and losing ownership of his own soul to Murrit, and even him damaging his computer system after trying to create a Skorpe theme. Dismas tries to present a facade of being a capable, tough troll who has a plan, but truthfully lacks in those departments, something he's painfully aware of.
At some point after Murrit's entry into the Game, Albion messages Dismas in order to assist him. Dismas inquires after her strange behavior from before, a subject she tries to deflect much to his chagrin. She concedes on talking about it later on the promise that he'll let her call him "cowboy", an old childhood nickname, again.

Another side of Dismas is shown when interacting with his moirail, furbishFacilitated, whose shy, anxious personality seems to bring out his more nurturing and comforting traits. He's notably very good at understanding his moirail intuitively, even when she struggles to put her thoughts into words, to the point where she is rarely worried about him not understanding her feelings. His two different temperaments are most obvious when he has to deal with both FF and Murrit at the same time: he's terse and prone to complaining when speaking with Murrit, but will downplay his own pain and frustrations when speaking with FF, and will try to look at things more optimistically in an effort to make her feel better.
The two friends spend some time working together to figure out his entry codes, without much success. In the midst of an angry tirade, Dismas is visited by Weird Al, who enters his hive through a strange portal. Weird Al then tears a hole through Space, uncovering Dismas' entry codes for him. Seemingly taking over his entry process, Al continues to assist Dismas with the help of a few wispy black creatures.

Relationships
As the homunculi build Dismas' entry gate, his paragon repository trial activates, binding him and simultaneously taking control of his lusus. Before he has a chance to act, however, Al kills the skulltitan with alchemy, releasing Dismas' denizen and activating his gate. A fuming Dismas is then kicked inside his gate and into the Medium.

Murrit Turkin
During the events of , Dismas is shown landing on his welcome platform and arguing with his denizen, Forcas.
Murrit and Dismas have been in a kismessitude for at least around two sweeps, and share the standard, mutually antagonistic relationship with one another. Murrit somehow gained and still owns Dismas's soul after an online poker game and the two worked as partners in an unknown capacity in the past. Though it is inferred that the work wasn't negotiable and had quite a lot of murder involved.

Murrit appears to have a tough-love stance towards Dismas, regularly helping Dismas in a round-about, incomprehensible manner through the use of his Boobdrone and in person. Dismas generally acts like he's completely tired of Murrit's bullshit, but goes along with it anyway and does seem to be able to talk to him without resorting to usual rivalistic behavior. Murrit has been shown to be physically aggressive with Dismas, at least through the use of Boobdrone. However, this may be a form of hate-flirting and it is unknown if this is indeed a recurring part of their relationship.
Act 3 Act 1
Dismas is a part of the memo Arcjec makes after the group's entries into the Medium. He catches up with the other players, as they discuss the events of the past day and their progress through the Game so far, explaining the situation with his lusus and showing frustration at his dungeon crawler-like planet.

furbishFacilitated
Some time later, he is shown fighting boss monsters on his planet, killing them with ease. He then comes across Granite, who offers him a healing potion for his broken arm. When Dismas questions how he's supposed to drink it, Granite cheekily suggests taking off his bandana. Dismas angrily drinks it anyway, unaware of how hot the liquid is, causing him to breathe fire and burn off the bandana anyway. He quickly shoves the bottle back in his mouth to cover up his facial scar. The bone heals as promised, and Granite activates the floor beneath them, elevating them both to the next layer of the labyrinth.
Dismas and furbishFacilitated are in a moirallegiance, and their relationship is notably FF's only known committed relationship. The two are very close to one another, and openly worry for the other's well being. Despite being anxiety-ridden and constantly struggling to get her thoughts into words, she much calmer when in Dismas' presense, and he's very good at intuitively understanding her feelings. The two are especially of the same mind when it comes to dealing with Murrit, completely fed up and frustrated, but will nonetheless go along with his harebrained ideas.

Dismas, much to his annoyance, then receives a message from Murrit. A brief conversation is shown between them in which Murrit asks Dismas for an example of a paradox.

Dismas is defined by a constant struggle to overcome his difficult circumstances. Having been raised by a volatile and aggressive skulltitan lusus, he was forced to endure horrible physical tolls and fend for himself from a very young age. Before the Game, Dismas was driven by his goal to escape his abusive home and kill his lusus, a dedication he shows through time spent studying ancient footage of skulltitans and the methods of their defeat.

He also seems prone to overestimating his abilities, to the point where he often does more harm than good to himself. Dismas tries to present a façade of being capable and tough, but has a tendency to freeze whenever it comes to making riskier decisions, a fact he is painfully aware of. His gentler, more nurturing side is on display whenever he interacts with those he cares about, namely Albion and Jentha. Although he remains curt and a bit "prickly", it's clear that he is an understanding and honest friend. In contrast, Murrit seems to bring out his thornier side, intentionally flaring his temper and causing him to lash out in frustration.

Dismas is very self conscious about his appearance, particularly his facial scars which have disfigured the left side of his mouth. He tends to cover himself up with multiple layers of clothing in order to hide this scarring.

Relationships
Murrit Turkin
Murrit and Dismas have known each other since childhood, and have been in a kismessitude for at least two sweeps, sharing a mutually antagonistic relationship. Murrit appears to have a tough-love stance toward Dismas, often "helping" him in roundabout, frustrating ways meant to prod him into action. Dismas is vocally disapproving of Murrit's more aggravating stunts, but tends to go along with them most of the time. He is particularly frustrated by Murrit's avoidance of honest communication, being much more inclined to talk things out without resorting to the usual rival-like theatrics. There is, however, an implicit bond of trust between the two, which is a testament to their partnership of many sweeps.

Dismas seems to hint at a more recent strain in their relationship, which is aggravated by Murrit's aforementioned typical avoidance of direct communication.

Jentha Briati
Dismas and Jentha are childhood friends, and are in a moirallegiance. Despite being anxiety-ridden and constantly struggling to get her thoughts into words, Jentha is much calmer when in Dismas' presence, and he's very good at intuitively understanding her feelings. He also provides for Jentha's material needs, as her anxiety has stopped her from being able to find a source of income on her own. The two are shown to be very in tune with one another.

Albion Shukra
Albion Shukra
Although the two have yet to interact directly, Albion and Dismas appear to be familiar and friendly with one another. Dismas was notably concerned when he sees Albion acting strangely (truthfully, she was being possessed by her ancestor, who had wished to warn Dismas of "follow credence of the man who spins words like yarn" and to stop "the limeblooded vessel to his heart").
Albion and Dismas are longtime childhood friends. Dismas was notably concerned about Albion's behavior during her brief possession stint, only relaxing when Murrit assured him that she was fine through his surveillance feeds. The two share an easy rapport, frequently teasing each other but still showing a lot trust and personal insight into the other's emotional states. They used to go by "star child" and "cowboy" when they were younger.

Dismas Mersiv, also known by his Skorpe handle gigantisDebilitation, is one of the trolls in Vast Error. His associated alchemic sigil is Phosphorus, and he is a deconstruction of the "edgy" fantroll archetype.[1]

His survival ability is a pseudo-healing factor, which speeds up his body's natural healing process but does not lessen any resulting scarring.

He was the fourth troll introduced and the fifth troll to enter the game.

Etymology

Dismas shares a name with Saint Dismas, the "Penitent Thief" or "Good Thief", possibly as a nod to his player class. According to the Christian tradition, Saint Dismas was one of the two criminals who died on crosses next to Jesus during the latter's crucifixion.

The name Dismas is also derived from Greek δυσμή (dysme), meaning "sunset".

Biography

A younger Dismas working for Murrit.

Also during that time, Murrit found Jentha Briati through unknown circumstances, leading Dismas to her under the guise of a hit. Dismas refused to end her life, and eventually the two found solace in each other, entering a moirallegiance.

Act 1

Dismas is first introduced inside his respiteblock. He is soon messaged by Murrit, who urges him to go outside in order to help her with her plans to save their friends from planetary annihilation and bring about The Game. Despite his concerns about dealing with his lusus, Dismas begrudgingly complies.

Some time later, Dismas wakes up at the bottom of the canyon, alive but heavily injured. Act 3 Act 1

Dismas is a part of the memo Arcjec makes after the group's entries into the Medium. He catches up with the other players, as they discuss the events of the past day and their progress through the Game so far, explaining the situation with his lusus and showing frustration at his dungeon crawler-like planet.

Dismas, much to his annoyance, then receives a message from Murrit. A brief conversation is shown between them in which Murrit asks Dismas for an example of a paradox.

Personality and traits

The world's not going to be ending anytime soon.
Not if he has anything to say about it. DCRC icon.png

Albion and Dismas are longtime childhood friends. Dismas was notably concerned about Albion's behavior during her brief possession stint, only relaxing when Murrit assured him that she was fine through his surveillance feeds. The two share an easy rapport, frequently teasing each other but still showing a lot trust and personal insight into the other's emotional states. They used to go by "star child" and "cowboy" when they were younger.

Trivia

  • Dismas' chat handle, gigantisDebilitation, means "Godzilla's weakness" or "weakening Godzilla", with "gigantis" being a reference to the original international title of the second Godzilla movie: Gigantis: The Fire Monster, and "debilitation" meaning "to weaken", a reference to Dismas' desire to eliminate his lusus.
  • Dismas' distinctive facial scars appear to be a reference to "phossy jaw", an occupational disease to those who work with phosphorus without proper safety equipment.
    • Murrit has specifically called Dismas "phossy jaw" in reference to that condition.
    • Notably, this coincides with Dismas' alchemic sigil, phosphorous.
